My name is Rebecca Mayer. I'm a senior at Sport and Medical Sciences Academy and have been here since the 6th grade. Being from an athletic family, I've played sports my entire life, and they've helped me become who I am today. My work ethic has led me to be named an all-state and all-conference volleyball player three years in a row. Athletics have taught me how to lead quietly, making my voice heard without allowing my other teammates to give up on themselves and their team. My commitment to the teams I'm apart of drives me everyday to strive for my best. The main reason, though, I have an intense love for sports is finding an escape from the many health issues I have faced over the years. My health has taken a great toll on me throughout my entire life, leaving doctors stumped saying I am a 1 in a million case who no one knows how to help. With so much inconsistency in my life, athletics are a constant I can always rely on, allowing me to forget about the pain that I face everyday and have the ability to live in the moment. Using these skills, I will be continuing my athletic and academic journey at the collegiate level playing Division II volleyball at the University of Bridgeport. Since coming to this school, especially in recent years, I've noticed how much our athletic programs have suffered financially. Reaping the benefits of my athletic career, I want to be sure that the kids who come through this school have the same access I did. For my capstone, I decided to help run the concession stands at sporting events and also raise money for an all-state banner for the athletes who have received all-state status.

MY MISSION
In the future, I aspire to leave an impact on the world through the use of machines/technology in our environment as a Mechanical Engineer. I always knew I wanted to go into a field where I could help people, whether that was being a doctor or a lawyer, but now that our planet is suffering more than it has than ever before, that is where my passion lies. In the Fall of 2020, I will be attending the University of Bridgeport to major in Mechanical Engineering, one of the best programs in Connecticut, to pursue this mission and continue to develop my self-confidence.
